Who We Are

Welcome to Burma Rohingya Relief

At Burma Rohingya Relief, we are dedicated to providing humanitarian aid and support to the Rohingya people, who have faced persecution, displacement, and unimaginable hardships in Myanmar (formerly Burma). Our mission is rooted in compassion, solidarity, and the belief in the inherent dignity and rights of every individual.

The Rohingya Crisis:

Causes of Displacement

The Rohingya people, an ethnic Muslim minority group residing primarily in Myanmar's Rakhine State, have faced a devastating cycle of displacement, persecution, and violence. The root causes of their displacement are deeply rooted in a complex web of historical, political, and socio-economic factors:

Systemic Discrimination and Statelessness:

Since Myanmar's independence in 1948, successive governments have systematically discriminated against the Rohingya, denying them citizenship rights and relegating them to the status of statelessness. The 1982 Citizenship Law stripped the Rohingya of their legal recognition, rendering them effectively stateless and denying them access to basic rights, including education, healthcare, and freedom of movement.

Ethnic and Religious Persecution:

The Rohingya have long been targeted for their ethnic and religious identity. They have faced persecution and violence at the hands of both the Myanmar military and extremist Buddhist nationalists. Discriminatory policies, hate speech, and propaganda have fueled a climate of intolerance and violence, leading to widespread human rights abuses against the Rohingya population.

Military Crackdowns and Ethnic Cleansing:

The most recent wave of displacement occurred in 2017 when the Myanmar military launched a brutal crackdown in response to attacks by Rohingya insurgents. The military's campaign, characterized by mass killings, rape, arson, and other atrocities, forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees to flee their homes and seek safety in neighboring Bangladesh and other countries.

Land Conflicts and Resource Exploitation:

The Rakhine State, where the Rohingya primarily reside, is rich in natural resources and strategic significance. Land disputes and competition over resources, including land, water, and minerals, have exacerbated tensions between the Rohingya and other ethnic groups, leading to violence and displacement.

Climate Change and Environmental Degradation:

The Rohingya crisis is also exacerbated by environmental factors, including climate change and environmental degradation. Rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and deforestation threaten the livelihoods and well-being of Rohingya communities, exacerbating their vulnerability and contributing to forced displacement.

International Response and Accountability:

The plight of the Rohingya has garnered international attention and condemnation, with calls for accountability and justice for the perpetrators of human rights abuses. However, the Myanmar government's denial of responsibility and lack of cooperation with international efforts to address the crisis have hindered progress towards a sustainable solution.

At Burma Rohingya Relief, we are committed to addressing the root causes of the Rohingya crisis and providing humanitarian aid and support to displaced Rohingya communities. By raising awareness about the reasons behind their displacement, we aim to mobilize support, promote justice, and work towards a future where all individuals are treated with dignity, respect, and equality.
